Standard 10: Collaboration, Ethics, and Relationships

A teacher must be able to communicate and interact with parents or guardians, families, school colleagues, and the community to support student learning and well-being.

My interpretation: A teacher is not only an instructor of skills and knowledge, but a central part of his students' community. That community, of course, also includes family, coaches, and other community leaders. Establishing a relationship with other adults in the students' community is key in supporting those students' learning.

As a culmination of one of my methods courses, a classmate and I created a week long inquiry project on climate change. This was by far one of the largest, most challenging, and most satisfying projects I completed during my teacher licensure program. Part of why this project was so satisfying was because I had the chance to collaborate with a classmate of mine. Completing this project was entirely a team effort - each of us brought forward creative ideas and helped solve technical issues. Because of this project, I look forward to collaborating with more of my teacher colleagues in the future.
