Goals for Student Teaching

  • Design and implement an inquiry unit/project by collaborating with the host teacher.

  • Become involved in the school community, including one or more of the following:

    • Attend sporting and art/drama events.​

    • Help out with after school activities.

    • Provide academic help for students after school.

    • Introduce myself/ get to know parents or guardians of students.

    • Volunteer to help with school's volleyball team.

  • Attempt to tie each biology concept we learn to something meaningful. Try to convey to students why what we are learning is important. The answer should never just be "because it is on the test."

  • Help establish a culture of respect with the host teacher. 

  • Help establish a culture of curiosity with the host teacher.

  • Help establish appropriate norms, procedures, and language with the host teacher.

  • Expect and encourage students to have control of their own learning

  • Create and maintain a narrative in our class that demonstrates the value of science, skepticism, critical thinking, and curiosity

    • Show how science benefits society​

    • Show how critical thinking benefits individuals

    • Show how curiosity leads to great discoveries

    • Show how skepticism and the scientific method allows to find out what is true
